User interface ergonomy

Your online catalogue is to be used by all library users, who can have varying skills in computing and library organisation. This is why we have focused on creating a user interface which is as simple as possible, but nevertheless offering a great deal of search possibilities.

Please note that the online catalogue is available in four languages: English, German, French and Italian.

Virtual showcase

Virtual showcase

On the online catalogue's homepage, you can display a virtual showcase with book covers.

You choose the showcase contents yourself: new acquisitions and/or older titles that you'd like to promote.

The showcase is a good way to make your online catalogue lively and to invite your readers to browse it.

Real-time system

Contrary to other library systems, information displayed is always up-to-date. For instance, a title which has just been entered is immediately available in the online catalogue. When a reader borrows or returns a title, this title's availability is displayed in real-time, just as the reader's account shows what titles he has borrowed and when he must return them.

Search form

Searches

Web public search offers numerous search possibilities :

  • A simple search ("Google-like") looking in several title fields for the entered criteria
  • A search by any word of the title
  • A search by author (using the authors index)
  • A search by class mark
  • A search by subject heading (using the subjects index)
  • A search combining several criteria
  • A search for new acquisitions

Readers' accounts

The web public search not only publishes your catalogue online, but also lets your readers perform other operations: reserve titles, query their account (title of lent titles, date of return), cancel a reservation, renew a loan (as long as some conditions are met), query their past loans…
All these services give your readers more autonomy and lighten your daily work.

Loans in self-service

Companies can also let their workers register their loans themselves : after a worker has searched for a title in the online catalogue, he can register his loan from his workstation of from his mobile device. The user interface has been designed in order to prevent any mistake. With this function, you know at any time where a title is.

Customising the user interface

The web public search is delivered as a ready to use package. But if it's look does not correspond to your taste, you can easily customise it thanks to the stylesheet accompanying the software.

The metasearch tool

Take part in a union catalogue

Your online catalogue can be included in a union catalogue of several libraries. Our metasearch tool (available separately) is a web site that lets your readers search in several catalogues at once, maximising the opportunities to find the searched titles.

This tool is easy to set up and does not require any infrastructure change from your part. As it is able to query libraries managed with several library systems, the participating libraries don't need to change their software and to migrate their data. And our tool is a real bargain comparing it to other solutions.

The following union catalogues are published by our metasearch tool:

Please contact us if you need further information about our solution for creating a union catalogue.

All you have to do is to regularly send us your database.

This service has several advantages :

  • Easy : no need to change your network's configuration
  • Safe : the published database is a copy, your original database is safe
  • Economical : you save a possible purchase of a server
