Security First

With version 8, and after 35 years of development, BiblioMaker continues to rejuvenate and strengthen itself. Our software confirms its position at the forefront of technology, security, and ease of use. Version 8 brings many new features, the main ones of which are presented here.
Security improvements
The security of your data is our priority.
For several years now, each major version of BiblioMaker has brought new enhancements. Version 8 is the culmination of our goals in this area.
BiblioMaker is the only Swiss library system to use the QUIC protocol, which prevents any interception of communications between client and server, with a strong encryption key that is renewed at least once a month and is unique to each server.
Our servers, their backups, and all our employees are based in Switzerland. None of your data leaves Switzerland.
For both cloud and local server versions, BiblioMaker is one of the few Swiss solutions to use dedicated client software rather than a web browser to connect to the server. This not only allows for superior performance and greater ease of use, but also better security.

New features in version 8:
-
Two-factor authentication via email. With this option, a six-digit authentication code is sent by email after the password is entered.
-
Two-factor authentication via TOTP. This option uses a free TOTP app on the user's smartphone to provide the login code after the password is entered. This allows for biometric authentication, as smartphones are generally protected by facial recognition or fingerprint recognition.
-
Protection by identifier of workstations authorized to log in. This option is less restrictive than the previous two and has the advantage of preventing any connection from an unauthorized computer, even if the password has been guessed or disclosed.
Multiple modification dates

Version 8 provides much more information and offers better traceability of the current status of the file.
The exact date and time of creation, as well as the author of the creation, are always retained, along with the last ten modifications.
The user mentioned may be a person or a REST account. A Type is associated with each step to distinguish, for example, between manual or automatic entries or data imports.
Download of records from the web

This function – which, for the record, greatly facilitates and speeds up the cataloging of documents – provides with the results of a search much more quickly. Until now, the program sent the query to each catalog one after the other. If one catalog took a long time to provide a response, it slowed down the display of the results of all the catalogs queried after it. From now on, the queries are sent in parallel and the responses are almost instantaneous.
On Mac, you get the cover image by dragging and dropping the image between the window of the found record and the cataloging grid window.
The program has been adapted to changes made by various online catalogs queried.
Displaying the titles availability

The availability of a title is displayed by hovering the pointer on its cover page: a help bubble indicates the status of the document. The program now also informs if a copy is missing or the title is reserved.
Barcode font installation
Installing the barcode font has been greatly simplified: when printing a document containing barcodes (such as barcode labels for documents or addresses), the software checks whether the barcode font is installed on the computer and if not, offers to install it.

Loan management window

The number of total loans, reservations and internal traffic for the selected reader is now displayed in the loan management window. This provides a better overview of a reader’s account.
In addition, the list of current loans and reservations can be sorted with a simple click on the header of one of the columns of the table containing this list.
Private Hyperlinks
A checkbox Not visible in the online catalogue has been added to the Hyperlinks file. By checking this box in a Hyperlink record, it will not be displayed in the online catalogue and the corresponding digital resource will be reserved for librarians.

Online Catalogue

Our developers have made a considerable effort to optimize the functioning of the online catalog and have achieved a spectacular result: response times have been reduced by a factor of 5 to 10! Library users will appreciate the speed gain.
Interface for mobile devices: The contact e-mail address has been added to the library information page so that users can write to you.
Certified for macOS Tahoe and Windows 25H2

Our software is optimized for the latest processor architectures and will run optimally on recent computers.
The software icons have been modernized and adapted to the dark or transparent modes of macOS Tahoe.
Version 8 continues to run on the same configurations as version 7.4, except on Mac, where the minimum system requirement is now macOS 13 Ventura.
See our Recommended Environment document for more details.
